Prior to joining Professional Finance Company, my perceptions of the debt collection industry seamlessly coincided with the popular misconceptions that the debt collection industry is calloused, vicious, and dishonest. Working for a debt collection agency was not my first choice. However, my divorce forcefully flung me into the workplace, and I leapt at the chance to work at Professional Finance Company despite my preconceived notions. I have since been pleasantly surprised as each one of the stereotypes I had in mind has been proven wrong.

The majority of the accounts placed in our office are medical debt which can be a very challenging, unexpected expense for many consumers. When a debt collection agency is factored in alongside such a cost, it can become a very overwhelming experience for the consumer. Rather than shaming, bullying, or treating the consumer as a negligent which is the Hollywood version of debt collection that many of us know well, the staff at Professional Finance Company treat the consumers with compassion and work diligently to provide a solution that fits the consumer’s current financial situation while remaining assertive on behalf of our clients in order to recover what is owed.

I am a firm believer that the majority of people are good or are at least striving toward good, and I am very happy to see that Professional Finance Company has the same outlook toward the consumers. It would be very easy to automatically view the consumers harshly and negatively, but, at this company, we are taught that it is possible to be assertive while also empathizing with the consumers.

While the responsibilities and expectations are high at PFC in terms of collecting monies owed, the energy, optimism, and teamwork make, what may be deemed as lofty goals, obtainable. Also, not only are these goals obtainable, the journey toward these monthly, quarterly, yearly goals are enjoyable due to various financial incentives such as gift cards.

I have heard many stories from my friends who work in office environments that feel unacknowledged and forgotten. Working in debt collection which has the capability of being a very high stress environment, I wrongly assumed that the possibility of being forgotten would be much higher. At PFC, that could not be any further from the truth. Supervisors are friendly, helpful, and accessible. Employees are acknowledged for their accomplishments and the time they have put into the company. Monthly companywide meetings help build a PFC community, and a friendly good morning from the CEO provides everyone here with a sense of belonging.

I could not be more grateful for the opportunity to have Professional Finance Company be part of my fresh start. Through what has been one of the most stressful experiences of my life, working at PFC has not been one of them. I am very happy to honestly say that I enjoy my work in the collection industry.
