Fitness 19 began using third party collections agencies in 2012. Previously, we had exhausted all efforts in club to collect past due accounts, but being privately owned facilities, our resources were extremely limited. Wakefield and Associates was a great solution to the overwhelming amount of past due accounts that plague the revenue stream of our clubs. Not only does third party collections have the time to dedicate for contacting members with debt, but they have the resources to track down members for whom we may not have current contact information. This has proven to be useful on multiple occasions as we were not able to touch base with a member due to invalid contact information. Many times these members will return to our gym and continue their membership after they have been contacted by Wakefield and Associates. Not only does it help us collect a debt, but it encourages the return business of a customer.
Returning customers are proof that Wakefield and Associates handles their accounts and collection procedures with professionalism and courtesy. A customer that was mistreated surely would not return to the place of business that was associated with another company with poor customer service. Being a neighborhood gym, this is of extreme importance as our reputation generally relies on the reviews of our customers and members.
The unfortunate misperception of the collection industry has led to the belief that accounts are sent to third party collections out of malice or spite, when in fact, the contrary is true. Many times, as mentioned above, it is our inability to get in contact with a member that leads to an account being transferred over to Wakefield and Associates. Every debt collected, and every member saved due to collections contributes to the underlying efforts to create the best atmosphere possible for our current members.
In a booming industry such as the fitness industry, growing competition means that profit margins are slim. Every dollar collected is of extreme importance. Every dollar saved is of extreme importance. Not only does third party collections increase our revenue stream, but it also allows us to decrease our in-club payroll, and allows our employees to focus on what they do best. Health, fitness and improving the lives of our members is what we strive to ensure, day in and day out. Every minute spent attempting to collect a debt is time spent NOT helping individuals improve their quality of life. It’s why each and every one of us got into this industry, to help people.
Third party collections has streamlined our process for collecting past due accounts, increased our revenue stream, and allows our staff to focus on their jobs.
